Next week, when the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will be held in Strasbourg, there will be an attempt to limit the authority of the delegation of the newly elected Parliament of Georgia - the fact is that the Deep State does not accept the existence of a peace-oriented government in Georgia and is trying to activate its own capabilities in all directions! - Givi Mikanadze, a member of the Georgian Dream faction, stated in the Parliament today.
As Mikanadze explained to the media, the issue is that the Georgian Parliament delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe may be suspended, which means that the delegation will not be able to participate in the sessions, will not have the right to speak or vote, but Georgia will remain a member state of the Council of Europe.
In addition to the Deep State, Mikanadze also focused on the “radical opposition,” saying that the Deep State’s servile radicals continue to harm the interests of the country and society.
“There has traditionally been a very high level of cooperation between Georgia and the Council of Europe. Georgia has been a full member of this organization for 26 years.
Involvement and participation in the Council of Europe is important for Georgia, however, we also see that since April of last year, specific international officials or politicians, including politicians who are members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, have repeatedly made statements that could be perceived as direct interference in Georgia’s internal affairs. This was especially unprecedented during the pre-election period.
Several political groups of the Council of Europe made a specific statement, once again expressing that they have very great obligations in the context of liberal approaches to the force that we call the Deep State. We see that despite the fact that President Trump even issued a special decree on combating the Deep State, the Deep State has serious influences and tentacles through its representatives in all important structures.
Next week, when the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will be held in Strasbourg, there will be an attempt to limit the powers of the delegation of the newly elected Parliament of Georgia.
We are taking specific steps, but in parallel with this, it is important to remind the public of another factor - the radical opposition, which says that the interests of the country and society are of paramount importance to it, do you remember that just a few weeks ago they addressed the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe with an open, public letter not to recognize the authority of the new Georgian delegation.
This is analogous to when representatives of the radical opposition appealed to representatives of the European Union in 2017-18 not to grant visa-free travel to Georgian citizens. This is a continuation of the radical opposition’s agenda, which took place in 2022-2023, when they tried in every way to prevent Georgia from receiving the status of candidate member of the European Union.
We are in talks with the leadership of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, as well as with political groups, delegations of specific countries. We are disposed to ensure that Georgia continues to actively participate and not only participate, but also contribute to the processes that are related to the values of the Council of Europe,” said Givi Mikanadze.
For information, the 11th convocation of the Parliament, represented by the Georgian Dream and People's Power MPs, approved the parliamentary delegations to international organizations at the autumn session.
The head of the parliamentary delegation to PACE is the Vice Speaker of the Parliament Tea Tsulukiani. The main composition of the delegation includes Givi Mikanadze, Mariam Lashkhi and Eka Sepashvili, while the reserve composition includes Rati Ionatamishvili, Levan Machavariani and Zviad Shalamberidze.
