Margus Tsahkna: Regarding Georgia, things are not heading in a good direction, and we need to start the process of revoking visa liberalization

Regarding Georgia, things are not heading in a good direction, and we need to start the process of revoking visa liberalization, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna told journalists in Brussels ahead of the Foreign Affairs Council meeting.

"As for Georgia, things are not heading in a good direction. Europe can do more, and one of the proposals Estonia has made is to begin the process of revoking visa liberalization. I’m not saying this will happen tomorrow, but we need to start this process to send a very direct and clear message that the government currently leading Georgia is deceiving its people, and they must change course," Margus Tsahkna said.

When asked what tangible steps the Georgian people, who have been protesting in the streets for 60 days, can expect from the EU, the minister replied:

"We do not believe what the Georgian government tells us; instead, we witness what is actually happening. I hope we will find a way to make more decisions regarding Georgia."
