Gia Japaridze: Members of the United National Movement do not Recognize Parliament’s Legitimacy, are not MPs, and therefore will not submit declarations

Members of the United National Movement (UNM) have stated that they do not intend to submit asset declarations.

As explained by Gia Japaridze, a member of the party, during a briefing, the Anti-Corruption Bureau is asking UNM members to fill out declarations as Members of Parliament.

According to Japaridze, the UNM does not recognize the legitimacy of the Parliament, its members are not MPs, and therefore it is unreasonable for them to fill out such declarations.

"I received a call from an unknown number. The caller introduced themselves as a representative of the Anti-Corruption Bureau and told me I needed to fill out some declaration as a member of the Georgian Parliament. I have already submitted a statement resigning my mandate. I have repeatedly said that I do not recognize the authority of this Parliament because the October 26 elections were massively and totally rigged. This Parliament cannot be considered legitimate. I do not attend Parliament, do not participate in its activities, do not receive a salary, and have not taken the oath as a Member of Parliament. Therefore, I find it completely unreasonable to fill out the declaration they are asking for.

With the same logic, the Anti-Corruption Bureau could accuse me of being a zebra stablemaster or the chief warden of lemurs and demand I submit a declaration," Japaridze stated.
