Davit Matikashvili: There is no basis to question the legitimacy of the Government – It is hard to imagine what arguments could be presented by forces hostile to Georgia

"There is absolutely no basis to question the legitimacy of the government – it is hard to imagine what grounds or arguments forces hostile to Georgia could bring forward," said Davit Matikashvili, Chairman of the Procedural Issues and Rules Committee, in a statement to journalists.

According to him, elections held in Georgia were assessed by OSCE/ODIHR as conducted at a “very high standard.”

"Elections were held in our country, which, according to the OSCE/ODIHR report, were positively evaluated. A specific and significant note was made that the Central Election Commission conducted these elections at a very high standard. There is no basis to question the legitimacy of the elections. Therefore, it is hard to imagine what grounds or arguments could be brought forward by forces hostile to Georgia if they attempt to make any negative decisions in any form," Matikashvili stated.

For reference, the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting will take place in Brussels today, where, among other topics, recent developments in Georgia will be discussed.

The meeting will be chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.
