Finland's Foreign Minister: If you want to remain a reliable democracy, you must stay a reliable democracy that holds elections where the true will of the people is taken into account

"I am very concerned about the situation in Georgia. We condemn the violence against peaceful demonstrators; this is unacceptable in any free society," said Finland's Foreign Minister, Elina Valtonen, to journalists in Brussels before the start of the Foreign Affairs Council meeting.

She stated that if Georgia wants to remain a reliable democracy, it must be able to hold elections that truly reflect the will of the people.

"I am very concerned about the situation in Georgia. Now I can speak as the Chair of the OSCE. Last year, the OSCE, through ODIHR, published a report on the elections and also recommendations for fundamentally organizing new elections. First and foremost, we condemn the violence against peaceful demonstrators; this is unacceptable in any free society. Secondly, if you want to remain a reliable democracy, you must stay a reliable democracy that holds elections where the true will of the people is taken into account," Elina Valtonen emphasized.
