Leaders of observer organizations and observers will not have the right to participate in pre-election campaigning

Leaders of observer organizations and observers will not have the right to participate in pre-election campaigning.

Changes to the "Election Code" have been submitted to parliament for consideration, under which the list of individuals who are not allowed to engage in or participate in pre-election campaigning will be expanded to include the leader and observers of an observer organization.

These changes also establish new criteria for appointing local observers, representatives of the press and mass media, as well as representatives of electoral subjects.

As explained by "Georgian Dream," the aim of the changes is "to more clearly protect the boundary between party and non-party observation."

The authors and initiators of the bill are parliament members: Givi Miqanadze, Archil Gorduladze, Aleksandre Tabatadze, Davit Matikashvili, Rati Ionatamishvili, Tornike Chkheishvili, Aluda Ghudushauri, Tengiz Sharmanashvili, and Guram Macharashvili.
