Levan Machavariani: Trump said that the European Union treats America unfairly – so no one should be surprised if the European Union treats Georgia unfairly

No one is asking the Estonian side about the visa liberalization issue. It must be a consensus of all 27 countries, - said Levan Machavariani, deputy chairman of the "Georgian Dream" faction, in response to the statement by Estonia's Foreign Minister, Margus Tsahkna.

In his assessment, several countries will not agree to this decision.

"I want to remind our society that a few days ago, Mr. Trump was involved in the (Davos Economic Forum) where he directly stated that the European Union treats America unfairly. Therefore, the EU treating Georgia unfairly, after this, should not surprise anyone. No one is asking the Estonian side about the visa liberalization issue. It must be a consensus of all 27 countries. We know of several countries that will not agree to this. The number of such countries is already increasing. We can see how the political context of the European Union is changing, and we see that countries like Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Serbia, etc., are starting to focus more on their sovereignty," said Machavariani.

For reference, Estonia’s Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated in Brussels, before the start of the Foreign Affairs Council meeting, that things are not going in a good direction regarding Georgia and that the process of revoking visa liberalization should begin.

"As for Georgia, things are not going in a good direction. Europe can do more, and one thing Estonia has proposed is the start of the process of revoking visa liberalization. I am not talking about canceling it tomorrow, but we need to start this process in order to send a very direct and clear message that the government currently leading Georgia is deceiving its people and they need to change course," Tsahkna said.
