The European Union's statement on solidarity with Mzia Amaghlobeli is somewhat unclear – I don’t know what it means if the EU also plans to hit police officers. This is what Georgian Dream MP Vladimer Bozhadze said in a conversation with journalists.
He advises Mzia Amaghlobeli, the founder of "Batumelebi," to end her hunger strike.
As Bozhadze states, Amaghlobeli can defend herself and the truth in court.
“I would like to advise Ms. Mzia to end her hunger strike. You know, there are court proceedings, she has lawyers, and she can defend her truth. As for the European Union’s statement regarding solidarity, it’s somewhat unclear. Does the EU also plan to hit police officers? I really don’t know what that means. We didn’t make any statements when French citizens, recently German citizens, and others were detained for being against the police. The police represent the state. In every country, the police are inviolable, including in America and EU member states. The European Union knows this very well, but instead of urging the opposition, civil society, and media representatives to reduce polarization and tension, unfortunately, through their statements, and in some cases through funding, they contribute to deepening polarization in our country, which is of course very bad and not welcome. The principle of the rule of law is the main principle in our country. Every citizen is protected before the law. Also, Ms. Mzia has access to treatment and proper conditions in the penitentiary system, and statements have already been made on this. She also has the opportunity to protect herself and her rights, including in court,” Bozhadze said.
For your information, the European Union expresses solidarity with Mzia Amaghlobeli and calls for her immediate release. The statement was issued by the EU Delegation in Georgia. "The European Union expresses solidarity with Mzia Amaghlobeli on the 17th day of her hunger strike and calls for her immediate release. The right to free media and a fair trial are at the heart of European Union values," the statement reads.
