The Public Defender issues a statement regarding the prisoner with severe injuries placed at the "Vivamed" clinic.
According to the statement, a representative of the Public Defender was at "Vivamed," where they met with prisoners and representatives of the penitentiary facility. However, an interview with the prisoner placed at "Vivamed" could not be conducted due to his health condition.
"On January 29, 2025, information was spread via media outlets regarding a prisoner with severe injuries being placed at the 'Vivamed' clinic. Given the high public interest, we would like to inform you that the Public Defender's representative was at the clinic to verify the condition of the prisoner and meet with medical staff. To obtain the necessary information, the Public Defender's representative also met with the prisoners and administration of the penitentiary facility, from where the injured defendant was transferred to the clinic on January 23. Unfortunately, an interview with the prisoner directly at 'Vivamed' could not be conducted due to his health condition.
We refrain from disclosing details gathered by the office, on the one hand, to protect sensitive personal data, and on the other hand, to ensure effective monitoring of the ongoing investigation.
The Public Defender’s office is aware that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the prisoner’s injuries. The Public Defender urges the investigation to be carried out within a tight timeframe to determine the cause of the injuries and the deterioration of the prisoner’s health.
Additionally, as reported by the prisoner’s family, the penitentiary service significantly delayed providing them with information about the incident. The Public Defender’s office will also examine this issue.
The Public Defender hopes that the prisoner’s health condition will improve soon. The office will continue to oversee the protection of his rights," the statement reads.
