Nika Gvaramia: The Council of Europe adopted a resolution on Georgia that is not comparable to those for Russia, Azerbaijan, and Belarus - the brief content of the resolution is "fire to the oligarchy"

The Council of Europe adopted a resolution on Georgia that is not comparable to those for Russia, Azerbaijan, and Belarus, writes Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the "Coalition for Change," commenting on the resolution passed by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe regarding Georgia.

As Gvaramia writes, "The brief content of the resolution is – fire to the oligarchy."

"In the European Union, they won't accept us, and if we don’t throw the ruling party into the trash, they will expel us even from the Council of Europe.

According to the resolution: 'Georgian Dream' has retained the formal right to have a delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, but effectively all the functions and privileges of an assembly member have been revoked.

Most importantly, before returning to the issue of their mandate in April, 'Georgian Dream' has the following conditions:

  • Appointment of new parliamentary elections in the coming months, under strict international monitoring, in the conditions of independent state institutions and the Central Election Commission;
  • Release of political prisoners before April;
  • Accountability for perpetrators and an end to violence;
  • Complete rejection of Russian law and taking into account the Venice Commission's conclusions regarding the administrative offense law;
  • Continuing European integration based on the implementation of the reforms requested by the European Union;

P.S. The brief content of the resolution: fire to the oligarchy!" writes Gvaramia.
