Mikheil Kavelashvili: "Georgian Dream" has won elections for the ninth time, and 80% of the population supports European integration. If "Georgian Dream" were a Russian government, how would these two facts be compatible?!

"Georgian Dream" has won elections for the ninth time, and sociological surveys show that 80% of the population supports European integration. If "Georgian Dream" were a Russian government and acted against European integration, how would these two facts be compatible?! – said Mikheil Kavelashvili, elected to the position of president by the electoral college, in an interview with the Swiss publication Neue Zürcher Zeitung.

As Kavelashvili noted, the participants of the protests do not represent the majority of Georgia's population. He added that despite this, their opinions should also be considered, though it is unclear what exactly they are protesting against.

"The majority of Georgia's population fully understands the steps taken by the government. Those who take to the streets do not represent the majority. Of course, we must take their opinions into account as well, but the question remains: what are they protesting? Why demand new elections? Elections have already taken place. If new elections are held and these parties fail to win again, what then?" – said Mikheil Kavelashvili.

He also stated that the values Georgia upholds align with those of Trump, which gives hope for a new beginning in relations with the U.S.

"Trump and his team often say that peace is a priority. Additionally, the values that Georgia defends, such as the preservation of traditions, align with Trump's values. This gives us hope for a fresh start. The same will happen with Europe. Every country must defend its own interests," said Mikheil Kavelashvili.
