One of the leaders of the "Strong Georgia" coalition, Phikria Chikhradze, has stated that a medical council must be convened urgently regarding the health condition of Mzia Amaghlobeli, the founder of "Batumelebi" and "Netgazeti," to provide the public with information about her condition.
According to Chikhradze, irreversible and extremely severe consequences could occur as soon as tomorrow or the day after.
"Today marks the 20th day of journalist Mzia Amaghlobeli’s hunger strike. Even for a completely healthy person, such a prolonged period of starvation would inevitably cause serious health issues. Throughout this entire time, we have not heard any official explanation, comment, or information regarding her health condition. The only remark we heard was a brief, fragmented comment from a representative, specifically a doctor, which was entirely inadequate. This doctor claimed on the 16th day of her hunger strike that 'there are no changes in her health condition.'
We are dealing with a very serious systemic crime. This crime will inevitably be assessed seriously in the near future, but today we see that a high-ranking police official, who claimed that he injured his cheek during one of the crackdowns, is participating in this systemic crime. The prosecutor who brought serious charges, the judge who imposed a severe pretrial detention measure, and the entire system that is enforcing this injustice are all part of it. The Minister of Health—who, although illegitimate, still sits in this position and receives a very high salary—has made no assessment or statement regarding Mzia Amaghlobeli’s health condition. Instead, we heard so-called 'words of repentance and remorse' from the so-called Prime Minister. At the same time, his statements serve as a direct political directive.
We are facing a very grave reality. Tomorrow or the day after, the situation could become irreversible, and her health could deteriorate to a point where survival is no longer a viable outcome. The only legitimate structure today is the Public Defender’s Office, which, up to this point, has done nothing to demonstrate a sense of responsibility in this matter. A medical council must be convened immediately to provide information about her condition. Every necessary measure must be taken to determine what actions are required in the coming days," Pikria Chikhradze stated.
