The hardest thing to witness is how Georgian traitors rejoice at any instance of harm to Georgia – this was clearly seen by the public through the actions of radical opposition members and their supporters at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE)," said Davit Matikashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Procedural Affairs Committee, in a statement to journalists.
According to him, "Georgian Dream" will not continue working in the Parliamentary Assembly until a dignified attitude towards the country and its government is restored.
"The violence directed at the government, which was elected by our country and society, in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe led us to make the only correct decision. We, of course, remain in the Council of Europe and continue working within this structure, but we will not resume participation in the Parliamentary Assembly until a dignified approach towards our country and its legitimately elected government is restored. This is our response to dishonorable actions," Matikashvili stated.
He also noted that "it is distressing when a friendly country, which is at war, finds time to help Georgian traitors harm Georgia."
"Perhaps the most difficult thing to see is how Georgian traitors take joy in any incident that harms Georgia. The public clearly witnessed this through the actions of radical opposition members and their supporters at the PACE session. It is important to highlight that they acted together with the Ukrainian delegation. It is painful when a friendly country, which is currently at war, still finds time to assist Georgian traitors in damaging our country. The public will, of course, respond accordingly," Matikashvili added.
For reference, "Georgian Dream" has suspended its participation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. This decision was announced by party member Tea Tsulukiani following the adoption of a resolution on Georgia by the assembly. According to Tsulukiani, several provisions of the document are unacceptable because they are "unjust and baseless."
