The Ministry of Internal Affairs responds to the planned protest near the outskirts of Tbilisi and states that, for the purpose of ensuring public safety and maintaining public order, representatives of the relevant departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are mobilized at each location.
According to them, international significance motorways are considered strategic and/or specially significant objects. Therefore, according to Article 222 of the Criminal Code, blocking a strategic or special significance object is a punishable act that can result in imprisonment for up to 2 years, and committing this act collectively can result in imprisonment for a period of 2 to 4 years.
“As the public is aware, a protest is planned near the outskirts of Tbilisi today.
The participants are gathering at several locations and plan to assemble at the outskirts of Tbilisi.
For the purpose of ensuring public safety and maintaining public order, representatives of the relevant departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are mobilized at each location.
Law enforcement will ensure that the gathering proceeds peacefully, within the legal framework, in order to prevent unlawful actions.
As the public is aware, the protesters plan to block an international significance motorway.
We remind the participants and organizers that according to the Government Resolution №361 of October 23, 2024, on the approval of the list of strategic and/or specially significant objects, international significance motorways are considered strategic and/or specially significant objects.
According to Article 222 of the Criminal Code, blocking a strategic or special significance object is a punishable act, carrying a penalty of imprisonment for up to 2 years, and committing this act collectively can result in imprisonment for a period of 2 to 4 years.
We urge the organizers and participants to express their protest within the boundaries set by the law. Otherwise, the police will act in accordance with the law," the statement reads.
