Peter Fischer: I worked hard for Georgia to get EU candidate status and it makes me sad

I worked hard for Georgia to get EU candidate status and it makes me sad, - this is how German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, responds to the statement of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, according to which “Georgia falls short of any expectation from a candidate country”.

“If you're a country that wants to join the EU and you get a sentence from Kaja Kallas like the one highlighted below, and Germany agrees, which it does, then you have a problem. I worked hard for Georgia to get EU candidate status and it makes me sad”, he said.

“The brutal crackdown on peaceful protesters, journalists and politicians tonight in Tbilisi is unacceptable. Georgia falls short of any expectation from a candidate country. The EU stands with the people of Georgia in their fight for freedom and democracy”, Kaja Kallas wrote earlier.
