Levan Gogichaishvili: After 20 days, each day becomes even harder. I urge her to stop the hunger strike, solely because Mzia Amaghlobeli is needed alive for this country – we may reach irreversible consequences

After 20 days, each day becomes even harder. It is an extremely difficult process, and I urge her to stop the hunger strike solely because this country needs her alive – we may reach irreversible consequences," said Levan Gogichaishvili, a member of the "For Georgia" party, during a protest rally near the Parliament demanding the release of Netgazeti’s founder, Mzia Amaghlobeli.

Levan Gogichaishvili also addressed the ongoing continuous protests in the country and called on "Georgian Dream" to hold new elections to defuse the political crisis.

According to him, if new elections are held, the government will no longer be able to use the same scheme it applied in the parliamentary elections on October 26, 2024.

"As for the protests, the process continues. Starting today, Parliament has resumed work, but we are not entering Parliament and are not granting it legitimacy. We have done everything both domestically and internationally to prevent this Parliament from being recognized as legitimate. The protest has been going on for 69 days inside the country.

That is why I tell the government: follow your own logic and call for elections. If you claim that your electoral support is unshakable, then what’s the problem? Call the elections and let’s see. Elections cost several tens of millions of lari, while income tax amounts to several billion, most of which is paid by opposition voters. We are ready for elections to be held using our taxes.

The funds needed for elections are stolen monthly by the bureaucrats in the mayor’s office, but the reason they are not calling elections is that they can no longer manipulate the same scheme.

We are not arguing that ‘Georgian Dream’ has no voters – they have the support of 600,000 people, but not 1.1 million. ‘Georgian Dream’ received votes that our party, ‘For Georgia,’ should have received, but they did not get 53%. ‘Georgian Dream’ has no right to have 89 MPs in Parliament – they did not receive that many votes," Gogichaishvili stated.
