The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has charged two individuals with human trafficking committed as part of a group against a person in a helpless condition. The information was released by the Prosecutor’s Office press service.
According to their statement, an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that the accused lured a victim with mental and physical health issues, who was in a helpless state, and subjected them to sexual exploitation. The perpetrators then appropriated the money obtained from the exploitation.
"Both individuals have been charged under Article 143¹, Part 2(b), and Part 3(d) and (e) of the Georgian Criminal Code (human trafficking committed by a group with prior agreement, against a person in a helpless condition, with threats of life- and health-endangering violence), which carries a sentence of 12 to 15 years of imprisonment.
At the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, the court has already imposed pretrial detention on both defendants. The investigation into the criminal case is ongoing," the statement reads.
