Levan Machavariani: If Gakharia's team does not participate in the work of Parliament, their mandates will be automatically revoked. If I’m not mistaken, the deadline is until May – they will act according to the instructions they receiv

The deputy chairman of the "Georgian Dream" faction, Levan Machavariani, stated that Giorgi Gakharia's team has a deadline, presumably until May, to participate in parliamentary activities; otherwise, their mandates will be automatically revoked.

According to him, if they submit a resignation request to Parliament before then, the parliamentary majority will "immediately approve it."

"Yesterday, we saw the 'cards' campaign from Gakharia's team members. Serious bullying came from the collective 'United National Movement.' They removed these 'cards.' How they will agree among themselves is not of interest to us—or rather, they will act according to the instructions they receive. Mr. Gakharia, if I’m not mistaken, has until May to participate in parliamentary activities; otherwise, their mandates will be automatically revoked. Or, they should submit their personal resignation statements, which we will immediately approve. The rest will be seen in time.

It was very interesting when Mr. Gakharia referred to 'Georgian Dream' as 'Natsis' in those 'cards'—it’s quite amusing. I remind our citizens that Mr. Giorgi Gakharia has formed a coalition with the 'United National Movement' in four municipalities, and no one should forget this.

My personal assumption is that with these 'banners,' he tried to distance himself from the United National Movement. Perhaps this step was taken on his part, then he was severely bullied—maybe even received criticism from their common external supervisors—and the fact is, he had to remove those banners," Machavariani stated.

For reference, members of "Unity - United National Movement," "Coalition for Change," and "Strong Georgia"—a total of 49 MPs—have had their parliamentary mandates revoked.

The basis for Parliament’s decision was their personal resignation statements submitted in November of last year.

The party "Gakharia for Georgia" still holds 12 mandates in Parliament. Like other opposition parties, Giorgi Gakharia's political organization has declared the October 26 elections illegitimate and does not participate in parliamentary activities. However, they have not submitted resignation requests to terminate their mandates.
