It is clear that Georgia will not join the European Union with its current course. If Georgian officials continue to use violence, we are ready to further tighten sanctions, including revoking visa-free travel. This was stated by Estonia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Margus Tsahkna, during his speech in the Estonian Parliament.
According to him, holding new elections in Georgia is "the way out of the crisis and a path to restoring trust."
"Unfortunately, EU enlargement can also be reversed, as demonstrated by the developments in Georgia, where the ruling party is increasingly distancing the country from democracy as well as from its Western-oriented foreign course.
It is clear that Georgia will not join the European Union with its current course, and the people who hold de facto power in Georgia lack legitimacy.
We have said that holding new elections is the way to overcome this crisis and restore trust.
If [Georgian] officials continue to use violence, we are ready to further tighten sanctions, including revoking visa-free travel," said the Estonian Foreign Minister.
