Zurab Japaridze: The EU institutions must use all available leverage to ensure Georgia’s choice is realized – The Georgian people are certain that their future lies in Europe, not Russia

The EU institutions must use all available leverage to ensure that Georgia’s choice is realized – the Georgian people are certain that their future lies in Europe, not Russia, said Zurab “Girchi” Japaridze, one of the leaders of the "Coalition for Change," during a joint press conference with European MPs in the European Parliament.

According to him, the fact that Georgians have taken to the streets to demand their rightful place in the EU is not only about Georgia’s European future but also about the fate of the entire Caucasus region.

“The Georgian nation sees Europe as its home. The current government has captured all state institutions and is trying to divert the country from its European path. Georgians have taken to the streets en masse, demanding freedom, democracy, and a rightful place in the EU. This is not just about Georgia’s European future – it is about the fate of the entire Caucasus region. The Black Sea is also crucial for Europe’s security.

We believe that if Europe stands with us not just in words but in actions, to hold the de facto government accountable… The only difference between Belarus and Georgia is that people here take to the streets, and we still have a civil society. But the EU institutions must use all available leverage to ensure that Georgia’s choice is realized. The Georgian people are certain that their future lies in Europe, not Russia,” said Zurab Japaridze, as reported by “Mtavari Arkhi.”
