Swedish Foreign Minister: Actions of the Georgian Government contradict the values and principles on which the EU is founded – Sweden wants sanctions against those responsible

The actions of the Georgian government contradict the values and principles on which the European Union is founded, Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard stated during her speech in the Swedish Parliament.

She also emphasized that violence against peaceful demonstrators is unacceptable and that Sweden seeks sanctions against those responsible.

"The actions of the Georgian government contradict the values and principles on which the European Union is founded. The parliamentary elections in October were marked by an uneven playing field, deep-rooted polarization, pressure, and threats against voters. Violence against peaceful demonstrators is unacceptable. Sweden wants sanctions against those responsible. At the same time, we must continue to support democratic and pro-European movements in Georgia," Stenergard stated.
