"I believe one should not have the illusion that things in Georgia will resolve themselves—no. We need practical actions and decisions," said MEP Petras Auštrevičius during a press conference in the European Parliament alongside MEPs Dainius Žalimas and Urmas Paet, as well as leaders of the 'Coalition for Change,' Nika Gvaramia and Zurab Japaridze.
According to him, it is crucial to protect Georgia’s democracy and its pro-European course.
"Starting with EU Ambassador Herczyński in Tbilisi, I hope he will provide greater support to opposition forces, Georgia’s pro-European course, and pro-European policies. Additionally, EU Commissioner Várhelyi and High Representative Kaja Kallas must take action.
Time alone will not resolve anything, as we see that the regime in Tbilisi is consolidating power, imposing a more repressive and restrictive system against its own people. We must respond—otherwise, we will not only lose the country but also betray our fundamental principles, which are extremely important.
Today, we discussed the European Commission’s 2025 work program—starting with Georgia. It is of utmost importance to safeguard this country’s democracy and its pro-European path," the MEP stated.
