There will always be a chair for Georgian representatives in the “3+3 format” meeting hall, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated.
“We all agreed from the very beginning that we have the “3+3” format and that we understand the doubts and nuances of Georgia’s position, but there will always be a chair for Georgian representatives in the meeting hall of this format,” Lavrov said.
He noted that a similar approach was stated at the last meeting: “We confirmed to the Georgian side that the door is open.”
According to Lavrov, the current Georgian government is guided by “the national interests of the country.”
“And the fact that “3+3” [works] in the interests of all members does not cause doubts. By the way, this aroused envy, not suspicion, in the former US administration, which tried to promote the "3+1" format instead of the "3+3" format, that is, the three countries of the South Caucasus and Biden's people who would lead them," Lavrov said.
The platform of the six (Russia, Iran, Turkey - Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia) - the "3+3 format" - implies a format for cooperation between the countries of the region, and the initiative to create it belongs to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The first meeting within the framework of the platform was held in Moscow in December 2021. Georgia refused to participate in the "3+3 format" meetings.
