"I understand, I am entering their {radical group’s} situation – Trump's main concern is to defeat the 'Deep State,' and these processes are ongoing," said Kakha Kaladze, the General Secretary of the "Georgian Dream" party, in a statement to journalists. He responded to questions about his evaluation of the criticism from the opposition following U.S. President Donald Trump’s statements regarding Ukraine.
As Kaladze noted, radicalism will be defeated wherever it exists.
"I understand, I am entering their situation. These are representatives of radical groups who have patrons, and their patrons are in a difficult situation. You know that Trump’s main concern is to defeat the 'Deep State,' and these processes are happening right now. What has been happening in the world, wars, even the Russia-Ukraine war, is not a coincidental process. These are pre-planned actions, and as a result, Ukraine has been damaged. It is a catastrophic situation; villages are destroyed, territories have been lost, and nothing more severe for humanity than war could be imagined. It’s the same in Georgia, they are in a difficult situation, and their patrons are losing. Radicalism will be defeated everywhere it exists, whether in Georgia or the world," Kaladze stated.
Kaladze also pointed out that the ruling team has an obligation to act in the country’s interests, saying, "When they tell you to hit the wall, you should not take that step and get damaged."
"It has been very hard, facing everything we encountered. For a certain period, it was difficult to talk about this when the Prime Minister was being harshly spoken to in the cabinet, together with the party chairman, trying to forcefully open a second front with twisted arms.
There was an attempt to organize charter flights to send volunteers to the Ukrainian war. It was a direct attempt, violent coercion, to force the country to join sanctions, which would have been devastating for the economy. We have an obligation to act in the country’s interests. Of course, we need friends and partners, but this friendship was mainly about serving their interests, wrapped up over the years.
When they tell you to hit the wall, you should not take that step and get damaged. Therefore, we will protect our country's interests," Kaladze emphasized.
Regarding Ukraine, Kaladze said he did not wish to comment, as the country is in a very difficult situation.
"I don’t want to talk about Ukraine. I once said it doesn’t belong to itself or its people. I don’t want to go into specifics. Ukraine is in a dire situation. We consider the Ukrainian people our friends, and it’s hard to see what is happening there. As for our pragmatic politics, we act based on our country’s interests. We are the government chosen by the people," Kaladze concluded.
