Despite the fact that the elections in Georgia were held in a politically plural environment, using electronic technologies that ensured transparency, and that the elections were much better organized than any previous elections, a certain group of foreign politicians, including Mr. Wilson, who is here, chose not to recognize the results of the elections, Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, stated at the joint session of the three committees at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s winter session.
According to him, these politicians are spreading completely unverified accusations and disinformation.
“One of the members of the European Parliament accused, and I quote him, that “the OSCE/ODIHR is under the influence of a totalitarian regime that is not interested in holding free and fair elections.” Such statements are not only aimed at undermining the reputation of the OSCE, but also at undermining the free choice of the Georgian people. We are deeply concerned about the pressure exerted by certain foreign political groups on the OSCE/ODIHR mission, as well as the interference in the election campaign by these politicians. We call on all parties to respect the decision of the Georgian people and to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to their sovereign rights. There is no report from a credible international organization that states that the elections in Georgia were rigged,” Nikoloz Samkharadze noted.
He addressed US Congressman Joe Wilson, who, in his speech at the committee meeting, called the October parliamentary elections in Georgia rigged.
“Mr. Wilson, if you had been sincere in your speech, you would also have condemned the farce of the so-called "elections in the occupied region of Abkhazia," Samkharadze addressed the American congressman.
