I have a question: is insulting the current U.S. president, the secretary of state, and officials no longer considered anti-American?! So now we have become pro-American, and the collective 'United National Movement' has become anti-American?! This is how times have changed," said Guram Macharashvili, an MP from "People's Power," in a conversation with journalists.
According to him, the current U.S. president and secretary of state are now saying exactly what "People’s Power" has been stating in their declarations over the past 2-3 years.
"As a rule, Georgia has pursued a pragmatic policy and has never stated that we are against either the American government—let alone the American people—or European governments and societies. This has been our consistent position. We were against the 'deep state' and the 'global war party' because they were fighting against us.
Now, let’s recall the words of the U.S. secretary of state and even the president. What are they saying? Exactly what we, 'People’s Power,' have been writing in our statements and comments over the past 2-3 years: that the 'deep state' interferes in other countries' politics and seeks wars instead of peace. This has now been confirmed by the overwhelming majority of the American people.
So I have a question: when Trump is insulted and cursed—not just criticized—isn’t that considered anti-American?! But when we very modestly pointed out that it was unfair for the U.S. secretary of state or press secretary to criticize Georgia, we were asked if that was anti-American. They would say, 'The U.S. is our number one strategic partner, so even criticizing the president or secretary of state is anti-American.'
Now I ask, is insulting the current U.S. president, the secretary of state, and officials no longer considered anti-American?! How does this work?! Have we now become pro-American, and has the collective 'United National Movement' become anti-American?! This is how times have changed," Macharashvili stated.
