We are not seeing positive news from Georgia and the latest baseless accusations against our ambassador only confirm this fact. Of course, our ambassador has our full support, - Anitta Hipper, Lead Spokeswoman for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Commission, told the special correspondent of InterPressNews in Brussels.

“At the moment, we are not seeing positive news from Georgia and the latest baseless accusations against our ambassador only confirm this fact. Of course, our ambassador has our full support and as for the ruling party and what we are seeing there since October last year, we have seen a constant democratic backsliding, we have seen constant intimidation, threats against peaceful protesters, journalists, civil society and basically everyone who speaks about freedom and democracy,” she said.

According to Anitta Hipper, the EU stands with Georgians who fight for common values.

“To every Georgian who fights for values, the EU stands with you, and that is why we not only strongly condemn all tactics of intimidation and repression, but have also taken further action. Be it reducing all political contacts and freezing financial support to the government and redirecting it to Georgian civil society, as well as restricting travel for diplomats,” said Anitta Hipper.
