Giorgi Sioridze: An unimaginable disaster in Guria – Hundreds of calls to the hotline as people plead for help, food, and medicine, fearing their homes may collapse – The Government was unprepared and delayed its response

Hundreds of calls are coming into the hotline, with people asking for help, essential supplies, food, and medicine, fearing their homes may collapse. Unfortunately, this is due to the fact that the government was unprepared for the disaster and delayed its response," said Giorgi Sioridze, a member of the "Strong Georgia" coalition.

According to him, villages in Guria are cut off from the outside world, and the situation in the center of Ozurgeti is catastrophic.

"An unimaginable disaster has struck Guria. As people say, something like this happened 40 years ago. Now, the entire region is paralyzed, villages are cut off from the outside world, and even the center of Ozurgeti is in a catastrophic state. The market has collapsed as well.

You know, 'Strong Georgia' has created an emergency headquarters. Hundreds of calls are coming into the hotline, with people pleading for help, essential supplies, food, and medicine, fearing that their homes might collapse. Unfortunately, this is the result of the government being unprepared for the disaster and responding too late. This inaction is criminal and should be held accountable. They cynically said, 'What disaster? It's just snow.'

Fortunately, many volunteers have mobilized and are coming here, including mountaineers. Our emergency headquarters is doing everything possible to coordinate efforts, maintain contact with different groups, and provide as much assistance as possible to the population—whether it's first aid, delivering medicine and food, or sending people to difficult-to-reach areas.

I want to thank everyone who has shown solidarity and is coming to Guria. We will stay in constant coordination with them throughout the day. We will help the population resolve urgent problems to save their lives and health," Sioridze stated.
