"Do you believe in Georgian Dream’s objectivity? Will they make decisions against their own interests? Of course not. This is all a farce—would any self-respecting political force openly admit that they translated another country's law word for word? When will this kindergarten end in this country?"
The chairman of the Liberal Academy, Lasha Tughushi, made this statement on Palitra News' program Day's Newsroom while discussing the legislative changes initiated by Georgian Dream.
According to Tughushi, "Georgian Dream is thinking about how to suffocate everything and everyone that is not dependent on them."
"Do you believe in Georgian Dream’s objectivity? Do you think they will objectively assess whether the balance has been maintained? Whether the information has been verified? Whether there was public interest? Who determines this public interest? If it used to be the media, now will they sit down like high priests and tell us that something wasn’t in the public interest? That public interest is not what you think it is, not what you wanted to investigate or expose? Will they ever make decisions against their own interests? That they recorded something based on public interest? Of course not. This is all a farce—it's laughable. Have you ever seen a law translated word for word like this? Would any self-respecting political force openly admit that they copied another country’s law in its entirety?
What does the U.S. president have to do with this bill? What does Congress have to do with it? What kind of game are they playing? When will this kindergarten end in this country?! This looks like hysteria—they are trapped in it and are thinking about how to suffocate everything and everyone that is not under their control."
Tughushi also stated that Georgian Dream is trying to strengthen its control over everything that is independent of them.
"I would gladly participate in a debate with them, but sometimes I wonder how serious that would even be—they lie so much, and they never stop. Every day, they add new lies. This is all aimed at strengthening their control. Whether it’s British or American mechanisms, they are trying to use them to tighten their grip on everything beyond their influence. I remember the discussion in the previous parliament, where they also claimed to have translated the law exactly. But when we checked, we found out they had deliberately left out balancing provisions that existed in FARA—provisions that distinguished between allies and non-allies. They removed the most fundamental articles and kept lying until we exposed them.
Mr. Shalva looks absolutely ridiculous."
Additionally, Tughushi stated that Georgian Dream members cannot tolerate criticism, will cut off Western resources, and will make the media dependent on their political and party interests.
