"This is all a temporary phenomenon – we are absolutely confident that relations will normalize, and the policy of common sense, which is coming from the U.S., will inevitably reach the capitals of EU countries," said MP Davit Matikashvili in response to a question regarding the statement made by Germany's Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer. According to Fischer, Germany's Ministry of Education has "frozen" the development of scientific cooperation with Georgia.
According to Matikashvili, this decision is yet another example of the pressure being exerted on Georgia.
"The pressure is coming from a country that is a friend of Georgia. Historically, Georgia and Germany have had friendly relations. It is very unfortunate when educational and scientific programs are used as a mechanism of pressure on our country.
It is clear that all of this was preceded by Georgia's principled stance regarding the start of the war in Ukraine, Georgia’s decision not to get involved in this war, not to impose sanctions on Russia, and also our firm stance on sovereignty and family values, which are of paramount importance to our homeland," Matikashvili told journalists.
