"We understand that there is significant geopolitical turbulence in Europe and Western countries due to Ukraine and many other issues. However, the West will emerge from this even stronger than before, which means even greater guarantees of victory for the Georgian people," said the leader of "Strategy Aghmashenebeli," Giorgi Vashadze, following a meeting between opposition leaders and MEP Rasa Juknevičienė.
According to Vashadze, the Council of Europe’s resolution has laid the groundwork for demanding new elections in Georgia.
"From a policy of non-recognition to demanding new elections – the Council of Europe’s resolution set this foundation during the meeting of foreign ministers. The only message we heard was the call for new elections, and it was very clear, which had not been the case before.
The second important part – we understand that there is significant geopolitical turbulence in Europe and Western countries due to Ukraine and many other issues, new security frameworks, new security measures, new economic models. But we must clearly state that the West will emerge from this even stronger than before, which means even greater guarantees of victory for our democratic forces and the Georgian people.
What exactly should we expect? There is a new government in Germany that supports a strong and clearly democratic Europe, which is very important. We should expect that, along with our united position – that nothing but the release of political prisoners and new elections under new rules will be considered, nothing else is on the table – we will receive even stronger and clearer support from our partners. Whether through bilateral sanctions, direct pressure on the self-proclaimed authoritarian regime, or other steps that we have discussed but cannot openly and publicly disclose.
In the end, I believe that both we and Europe will emerge stronger, while as for pro-Russian forces, their place will be elsewhere," Giorgi Vashadze stated.
