Dimitri Tskitishvili: The main struggle is to force the Government to call elections

"European institutions maintain a highly critical stance, and decisions will be made in accordance with this critical situation," said For Georgia party leader Dimitri Tskitishvili after a meeting between opposition parties and Rasa Juknevičienė, the European Parliament’s standing rapporteur on Georgia.

Speaking to the media, Tskitishvili stated that today’s meeting did not focus on sanctions.

"It was an interesting meeting where we shared updates on ongoing developments. Rasa, as the rapporteur on Georgia, plays a crucial role in shaping the European climate. European institutions maintain a very critical stance, and decisions will be made accordingly.

Today, there was no discussion about sanctions, nor could there be, since sanctions fall under the European Commission’s jurisdiction. However, actions that might not be implemented at the EU level in terms of sanctions will likely be pursued at the national level by European countries—such as continuing the non-recognition and isolation of Georgian Dream."

Tskitishvili also noted that Georgian Dream's decisions could lead to further deterioration of the situation and jeopardize the benefits Georgia has gained in its relationship with the EU.

When asked about Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili’s proposed plan for new elections, Tskitishvili stated that elements of her plan had been previously discussed during meetings.

"There has been some coordination on this. When the issue of elections becomes a priority on the agenda, we need to have a clear plan on how they should be conducted. This requires the involvement of international observers and thorough preparation of local observers. Discussions are ongoing around these issues, but the main struggle is to force the government to call elections.

The points outlined in Zourabichvili’s plan have, to some extent, been subjects of discussion among us—whether in meetings with the president or among the parties. While these five points have not been discussed in detail, debates on these matters are ongoing," Tskitishvili stated.
