Mikheil Kavelashvili: When a natural disaster rages in a country, it is roughly analogous to war – during such time, there are people who spread disinformation, which is unacceptable

When a natural disaster rages in a country, it is roughly analogous to war – during such time, there are people who spread disinformation, which is unacceptable for any person, - Mikheil Kavelashvili told journalists in Kobuleti.

As Kavelashvili noted, “No one is immune from such a natural disaster and the main thing is how you react afterwards.”

“Today we are in the territory of Adjara. In Kobuleti, we attended a meeting of the Coordination Headquarters, where the Chairman of the Adjara Government, Tornike Rizhvadze, reported to us [information] regarding the current situation. The situation in Adjara is much better. The weather is also better. I am sure that in a few days everything will be restored almost 100%. There are only a few locations left where road cleaning is underway. Roads in all administrative centers have been cleaned. 80-90 percent of electricity has been restored. There are several locations left in the Kobuleti region where there is no electricity. The main issue is that no one is safe from such a disaster. The main thing is how you react afterwards. This is of great importance. The Prime Minister, the Minister of Infrastructure, the Ministers of Internal Affairs and Defense were present with me. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to our rescuers and firefighters, as well as the military personnel of the Defense Forces, who are still working 24-hours a day. There is no need for their help in Adjara, but they will be needed in Guria and Imereti,” said Mikheil Kavelashvili.

According to Kavelashvili, “the main thing is that coordinated work continues and not a single citizen is left unattended.”

“This is a security issue. When a disaster rages in a country, it is approximately analogous to war. During such time, there are people who spread disinformation, which is unacceptable for any person. All citizens should know that there is a full mobilization and it will continue throughout this period. We have been watching how they work for a whole week, of course, this is within the limits of their capabilities. They are doing the maximum that is possible. No one is immune from natural disasters.

I, as the president, should not have to talk about this, but this disinformation is so obvious that it directly harms [the situation]. Their motive is to somehow harm, to make the population feel that the government is not doing anything, that we do not have a government. I want the public not to react to this. The main thing is to communicate with everyone and everything will be in order.

You can have complaints with any government, but in such a situation, we should support each other, I think even a child knows this very well. My predecessor, who comes out and, based on the natural disaster that has just begun, shouts that we do not have a government and directly harms the country and the government, this is unacceptable. I would like to tell the public that we should have as little confidence in the information provided by these people as possible. At the same time, let's listen to the people who are responsible for the development of this country and the current situation. At the same time, let's react to a specific issue and not to what some people say," Kavelashvili said.
