EU press service: The EU has suspended programs benefiting the Georgian Government but will not halt Erasmus+ mobility and exchange programs with Georgia

The European Union has suspended programs that directly benefited the Georgian government but has no intention of stopping Erasmus+ mobility and exchange programs with Georgia, the EU Press Service in Brussels told InterpressNews' special correspondent.

According to the EU Press Service, Georgian youth play a crucial role in the country’s path toward the European Union.

"No, we are not discontinuing our Erasmus+ mobility exchanges with Georgia. The EU has suspended programmes directly benefiting Georgian authorities. Young people have been at the forefront of efforts to keep Georgia on the EU path. The EU will continue to be by their side," the EU Press Service stated.

For reference, Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research has halted German-Georgian scientific cooperation.

"The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research has suspended German-Georgian scientific cooperation, including student mobility, research, and Georgia’s participation in EU programs, due to the restriction of academic freedom and the suspension of Georgia’s EU accession process," wrote Germany's Ambassador, Peter Fischer.
