"Young people should be taught about Europe and global processes, but as we see, they are being prepared for aggression, confrontation, and clashes – this is disgraceful and unbecoming of the European Union and its ambassador," said Gia Volski, the First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, in response to reports that the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński, is holding meetings with young people.
Volski stated that he is unsure about the specific content of the ambassador's discussions but mentioned that experience shows that "we have not received any good from this."
He further noted that Georgia has done nothing wrong except defend its interests.
"Meeting with minors is, of course, not bad if you tell them good things, speak to them correctly, and provide accurate information about the European Union and, in general, Georgia’s aspirations. You should teach them about Europe and the global processes, but as we see, they are preparing them for aggression, confrontation, and the clashes in which, unfortunately, school students and young people, including university students, are involved. This is disgraceful. It is unbecoming of the European Union, it is unbecoming of its ambassador, and of course, we will have our position on this matter. But once again, I emphasize, Georgia has done nothing wrong except defend its interests. There has been no change in its foreign policy, and the claim that elections were rigged is a complete lie. The upcoming years will bring local self-government elections. I think everyone, including young people and their families, should seriously think about what the country needs, what the path to survival and peace is. I do not know exactly what his speech entails, but experience shows that no good has come from this. A tremendous amount of money has been spent to mobilize young people in the process of radical protests and to organize their participation," Volski stated.
