Sozar Subari: Social networks have a broad audience and influence – It would be beneficial to start working on regulations in this field

"Social networks today have the largest audience and the widest influence. It would be very beneficial to start working on regulations in this field," said Sozar Subari, a deputy from the "People's Power" movement, during a parliamentary session discussing proposed amendments to the "Law on Broadcasting."

According to Subari, work on this issue is necessary to protect human dignity and ensure that insults are punishable.

He also noted that social networks have a much greater influence on public opinion than television and radio.

"Today, information spread on social networks can influence public opinion much more than television or radio. Social networks encompass the largest audience and have the broadest influence. It would be very beneficial to start working on regulations in this field to ensure the protection of human dignity and personal life, and to make insults punishable," Subari stated.

For reference, the ruling party Georgian Dream is planning amendments to the "Law on Broadcasting," which would establish media objectivity and journalistic standards.
