"The Georgian Dream has a strategy that we must defeat: to 'feeding its own people geopolitics' - it is necessary to present the opposition as stronger, but we must not forget that the population of Georgia has other problems."
This statement was made by one of the leaders of the "For the People - Strong Georgia" party, Ana Dolidze, during a TV interview on the show "Day's Newsroom" on PalitraNews, where she commented on the idea of establishing an alternative political center proposed by their coalition leader, Mamuka Khazaradze.
Dolidze stated that she supports the initiative but believes that it is essential to focus on issues that are significant to the people.
"When a political center is created, or if it's created or not, what should Georgian politicians focus on? We have a tendency here, so-called 'fanchaturi' - politicians gather, but no political substance comes out of it; it was a place for consultations. A place for consultations and presenting the opposition as stronger is necessary; it’s also necessary to show the successes the opposition has achieved, including the success of exposing the repressions carried out by the Georgian government. Today, international delegations are not coming, and Kobakhidze is not being embraced – that’s our merit. But at the same time, we must not forget that the population of Georgia has other concerns. Besides, it is not only about what is happening in the White House; the people of Georgia are concerned with whether they will be safe when they go out and if they will return home safely. The 'Georgian Dream' has no answer to this," Dolidze said.
She also mentioned that the agenda proposed by the "Georgian Dream" to the public is a trick, and in reality, the pain of the Georgian population lies in the unresolved daily issues.
"Georgia has opposition parties that will gain the support of the majority of the population, and this should be reflected somewhere. There needs to be a platform where opposition parties will defend the interests of their voters, the people of Georgia. Today, there is no platform, place, or state institution where work is done to defend the interests of the population. The courts are usurped, the executive and legislative branches are focused on persecuting critics, collecting fines, and oppressing the media. However, the mission of the 'For the People' party has always been from the beginning to urgently focus on the main issues of the population, 'to ground' our government and prevent it from feeding the population geopolitics during lunch. The pain of the Georgian population is in the unresolved daily household matters," Dolidze emphasized.
According to her, the opposition must mobilize its forces more effectively and not allow the "Georgian Dream" to hijack the agenda.
"The opposition is active and must find a way to better mobilize its forces. The 'For the People' party and I have had this focus from the beginning – we will not allow the 'Georgian Dream' to hijack the agenda and [turn into] an Abon Tsitsishvili (a geopolitical commentator). The people of Georgia are concerned with more topics, and this is the area where the 'Georgian Dream' deserves a zero," Dolidze added.
Furthermore, Dolidze stated that the public should demand prosperity from the "Georgian Dream."
"Of course, in the conditions of crisis, in these political and economic conditions, the main task is to hold new elections and free political prisoners. How does the 'Georgian Dream' win? By forcing us to talk from morning till night about what happens in the Oval Office, in the White House. In American and European political life, they don't make the mistake we make. Can we solve household issues without resolving political issues? What did Donald Trump talk about yesterday in his speech? - About the price of eggs. The thing that wakes up a Georgian citizen is whether he will make it to the end of the month with the funds he has. In this situation, we should not allow the 'Georgian Dream' to take us through geopolitical labyrinths. What we must demand from them, while the regime still exists, is prosperity," Dolidze concluded.
