Russia is once again demanding that Georgia "delimit the borders" with its occupied regions and commit to the "non-use of force."
The Russian Foreign Ministry issued this statement following the Geneva format meetings held on March 4-5.
"The further improvement of the overall situation in the region would be facilitated by the swift initiation of the process of delimiting the state borders between Georgia and Abkhazia, as well as Georgia and South Ossetia, followed by their demarcation," the Russian Foreign Ministry stated, as quoted by the state news agency TASS.
The statement also highlights that the Russian Foreign Ministry drew participants' attention to "conciliatory statements made by Georgia’s top leadership regarding Abkhazia and South Ossetia during last year’s pre-election campaign."
"It was emphasized that reaffirming these declared intentions is of great importance… as well as transforming them into concrete practical steps, primarily in the form of legally binding commitments by Georgia to the Republic of Abkhazia and the Republic of South Ossetia on the non-use of force, through an appropriate agreement," the statement reads.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the resolution submitted annually by Georgia to the UN General Assembly regarding forcibly displaced persons and refugees from the occupied regions remains a "serious irritant."
