"At this stage, we cannot and will not consider local elections, as we are with the people, and the people's demand is for new parliamentary elections," said Paata Manjgaladze, the Secretary General of "Strategy Agmashenebeli," in a statement to journalists.
As Manjgaladze noted, until their main demands are met, the party sees no point in participating in local elections.
"We demand elections. This is connected to parliamentary elections. People have been in the streets for more than 100 days. We have this agenda, these demands on the table, and we will not consider other elections. At this stage, we cannot and will not consider local elections, as we are with the people, and the people's demand is for new parliamentary elections," Manjgaladze said. When asked whether this is driven by fear that their party might not have enough support, Paata Manjgaladze explained that it has nothing to do with fear.
"What does fear have to do with it? The elections were transparent, but every fundamental right, including secrecy, was violated. We have no guarantee that during local elections, the regime won't do the same or even worse. Therefore, we should not extend our hand to this regime, which has violated the Constitution of Georgia," Manjgaladze added.
