"We, the protesters, do not know what the future looks like, but do not believe that the government knows either—they don't, and they are in terrible fear," said Lasha Bakradze, a member of the "Unity-National Movement" coalition, on Palitra News' program "Resume."
According to Bakradze, the government does not even know how events will unfold in the coming weeks.
"A huge amount of work has been done, and Georgian Dream’s propaganda has worked well. When even in the U.S. there are such sentiments, it further emboldens Georgian Dream. We are in an extremely difficult period. I want to speak honestly about this. There is a kind of 'pati' (stalemate), as in chess. We, the protesters, do not know what the future holds, but do not believe that the government does either. They don't know, and they are in terrible fear. None of us can take a decisive step. One could say they are in a better position because they are still in the government, which they have seized. They have far more levers of control. But in reality, they don’t even know how events will unfold in the coming weeks," said Bakradze.
According to Bakradze, Georgian Dream is moving toward dictatorship, as all the laws it has passed recently restrict freedoms.
"Georgian Dream is passing a law on education. Like all its other laws, this one will also be restrictive. Every law that Georgian Dream passes is aimed at limiting freedoms. These draconian laws only impose punishments or make them harsher and more painful. In fact, we are moving toward a dictatorship. There may be people who like this dictatorship, who love Russia and are obsessed with it, but I believe they make up only a small part of Georgian society. However, there is also a large segment that thinks this will not affect them, so they remain silent," Bakradze said.
