The Georgian people and those groups that are fighting for a democratic Georgia and its European future have bipartisan support from the United States - the ruling party should think about this, - Eka Gigauri, Executive Director of Transparency International, said in response to the introduction of the MEGOBARI Act in the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
According to Gigauri, it is important that attention to Georgia “has not weakened.”
“This indicates that traditionally, the Georgian people and those groups that are fighting for a democratic Georgia and its European future have bipartisan support from the United States. You know, the supporters of the MEGOBARI Act are both representatives of the Republican Party and representatives of the Democratic Party. This is very important. The fact that so many things are happening in the world today and that under these conditions, attention to Georgia has not subsided and still exists is also very important. This indicates that we have great support from the United States, and the ruling party should think about this.
The MEGOBARI Act contains important issues, including the use of sanctions against specific individuals, against people who are involved in corruption, as well as in human rights violations and other issues that undermine Georgia’s democracy,” said Eka Gigauri.
According to the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch and Committee Member Jeanne Shaheen introduced the “Mobilizing and Strengthening Georgia’s Capacity to Build Accountability, Resilience, and Independence Act” - MEGOBARI Act” last week.
