Paata Zakareishvili: As they say, "Hallelujah," this is good news, and you cannot cast a shadow on the decision made regarding Ukraine, but I do not rule out that Russia may only agree to a 30-day pause, which does not mean that peace will prevail

I do not rule out that Russia may agree to a 30-day pause, but this does not mean peace will prevail – during these 30 days, Russia will demand that the United States persuade Ukraine to give up territories in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, and we will see how principled the U.S. will be, – said political scientist Paata Zakareishvili in an interview with "PalitraNews" in response to the recent negotiations between the U.S. and Ukrainian representatives in Saudi Arabia.

Ukraine expressed its willingness to accept a 30-day ceasefire, while the U.S. announced it would immediately resume military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

According to him, the proposal for a 30-day ceasefire was actually developed in Europe, and the Trump administration had no readiness to address how to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

"As they say, 'Hallelujah.' This is truly good news. You cannot cast a shadow on this decision, but the value of what this all costs is important. It is clear that the Trump administration had no creativity and no readiness to address how it viewed the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. The formula that was just accepted for Ukraine was developed after a scandal in the White House. Maybe it's a good thing that a scandal happened in the White House. After this, when Zelensky, who still had not returned to Ukraine, met with European leaders, a new joint proposal from Britain and France was formed to call for a ceasefire in the air and at sea, at least for now," said Zakareishvili.

He also stated that "the Trump administration has nothing prepared and does not know how to respond to challenges." He added that now, for the first time, it is Russia’s turn to show its attitude toward peace.

"This is great; we can't deny that the proposal made by someone is being used effectively by the U.S. This is wonderful, but it’s not like a wedding – the groom agrees, but it’s not yet known if the bride agrees. Where is Russia’s will? That’s still not clear. I categorically disagree with the idea that Trump is playing Putin’s game. This is not true. Trump is playing his own unformed game. He has wishes, nothing more. A wish usually only creates demands. Since he wants a ceasefire, he demands it from the weak link, Ukraine, to support the ceasefire. Finally, he has achieved some relative success with Ukraine, but it is clear that for so long Putin followed Trump’s unformed, baseless, floating ideas and worked with them. The deeper Trump went into mistakes, the more it suited Russia. Now is Russia's time to appear on the scene. Now, for the first time, Russia must show its attitude toward peace, either accept it or reject it. I think if not now, later, they will reject it. Russia is a treacherous state, and Putin is unreliable. Russia does not want peace. Russia wants victory. Trump wants a ceasefire. Trump does not want peace either. If anyone wants peace, it should be Ukraine. Peace should only be guaranteed with security guarantees. This scandal has brought a positive result in that Ukraine has made the Americans realize that peace can only be based on security guarantees. They created a 30-day 'buffer' where the ceasefire will take place, the waters will recede, the snow will melt, and we’ll see what is on the surface. Russia could use this 30-day peace period as well. Therefore, I do not rule out that at the first stage, Russia may agree to a 30-day pause, but this does not mean peace will come; this is not even a ceasefire, it is a 30-day pause," said Zakareishvili.

Additionally, Zakareishvili spoke about the relationship between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky and noted that the relationship between them would never improve because of Trump.

"The U.S. president is no longer neutral. In his argument with Zelensky, Trump said, 'I want to be neutral, I don’t want to be on either side, so I’m trying to be a mediator.' He is no longer a mediator; Europe has intervened. What’s happening now is that this proposal was offered by Europe. Today, there is no such tension between Trump and Zelensky as there is between Zelensky and Putin, but Trump has also become a party in the conflict because the British are involved between Trump and Zelensky. Zelensky met with Britain’s special representative, who clearly had information on America and explained how the Ukrainian delegation should talk to the Americans. So, today we have a double conflict – Russia-Ukraine, and America-Ukraine. The neutral party between America and Ukraine turned out to be Britain. Britain publicly taught and advised Zelensky on how the Ukrainian delegation should communicate with the U.S. delegation. Therefore, America has become a party in the conflict regarding Ukraine. There has been conflict between Trump and Zelensky for a long time, even since Trump’s first term. Trump looks at Zelensky with disdain, superficially, and does not hide it, nor can he hide it. Their relationship has not improved. There is nothing to improve. Trump is a populist. Therefore, it is easy for him to change his position. Didn’t he say, 'What nonsense, how did I say that Zelensky is a dictator?' This is a good trait, that he came out of the situation so humorously; it’s better to get out of it with a joke than to end up with ashes on your head. Their relationship will never be fixed because of Trump. He will invite him to the White House, shake his hand, but he will humiliate him in some way," said Paata Zakareishvili.
