Badri Japaridze on the court hearings of protest detainees: Such a shameful event should never happen again—The country has no future under this kind of justice

"I believe this situation should be included in textbooks. What we are witnessing right now is disgraceful, and I think it should never happen again," said Badri Japaridze, one of the leaders of Strong Georgia, commenting on the court hearings of individuals detained during protests on charges of organizing group violence.

Japaridze attended the court session along with other opposition politicians. According to him, the country has no future under such a judicial system.

"The prosecution is using a video obtained from the public domain as supposed evidence. However, the defense lawyers pointed out that the video was published by online trolls. The same prosecutors, in the case of Mzia Amaghlobeli, deemed publicly available evidence inadmissible. This blatant trampling of the rule of law is absolutely unacceptable. The country has no future under such a judicial system," Japaridze stated.

For reference, police have arrested eight individuals during ongoing protests on charges of organizing group violence.

Three of them—Zviad Tsetskhladze, Vepkhia Kasradze, and Vasil Kadzelashvili—are accused of organizing and leading group violence, facing potential prison sentences of 6 to 9 years.

The other five—Giorgi Gorgadze, Irakli Miminoshvili, Insaf Aliyev, Tornike Goshadze, and Nikoloz Javakhishvili—are charged with participating in group violence and face prison terms of 4 to 6 years.
