Foreign Affairs Committee of Czech Senate adopt resolution demanding holding of new parliamentary elections in Georgia, release of political prisoners, and expansion of list of targets of sanctions

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Czech Senate demands the holding of new parliamentary elections in Georgia and the release of all political prisoners. The relevant resolution is posted on the website of the upper house of the Czech Parliament, the Senate.

In particular, the resolution of the Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security Committee of the Czech Senate is related to “the ongoing protests in Georgia, the constitutional and political crisis following the unfair elections, the growing repression and human rights violations”.

The resolution also addresses several recommendations to the government of the Czech Republic. “[The Czech government] should demand the calling of new parliamentary elections in Georgia, which is the only way out of the current crisis in the country, and that they be held in accordance with the provisions of the European Union, the OSCE, the Council of Europe and other institutions;

[The Czech government] should demand the release of all political prisoners, the cessation of investigations and prosecutions against them, the restoration of freedom of assembly and expression, the repeal of undemocratic laws that have affected the media, civil society, freedom of speech and public servants;

[The Czech government] should demand the investigation of all cases of violations of the law by the police, courts and prosecutors;

[The Czech government] should significantly expand the list of individuals for their participation in repression and the seizure of state institutions, including police officers, prosecutors and judges, as well as propagandists, public broadcasters and entrepreneurs who assist the ruling party in its seizure of the state;

"[The Czech government] should expand sanctions to owners and representatives of propaganda media outlets, and to creators of propaganda online content," reads the resolution.
