Within one year, approval was granted for the return of 4,173 individuals to Georgia from EU countries through readmission.
According to statistical data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a total of 4,196 readmission requests were reviewed in 2024, with only 23 being denied.
Notably, the highest number of decisions for the return of Georgian citizens was made in Germany (2,537), followed by France (700), Greece (200), Switzerland (148), Italy (91), Poland (90), Ireland (66), Spain (58), Belgium (48), the United Kingdom (42), Austria (38), the Netherlands (37), and Sweden (25).
It is worth recalling that the "Agreement on the Readmission of Unauthorized Residents" between Georgia and the European Union came into effect on March 1, 2011. Under this agreement, Georgian citizens residing illegally in EU territory are returned to Georgia. The agreement also allows for the return of third-country nationals to Georgia under specified conditions. According to the agreement, all transportation costs related to readmission and transit up to the border of the final destination state are covered by the requesting country.
