Gia Volski: I believe that any fund must be transparent, and the public should have full information about what it does and for what purpose. When a fund is directly involved in certain political processes—especially if it is part of a scenario called a revolution—it naturally deserves additional scrutiny, the First Vice-Speaker of Parliament, Gia Volski, told journalists.
According to him, information about the sources of funding for these funds should be available to the public.
"I think any fund must be transparent, and the public should have full information about what it does and for what purpose. However, alongside doing good work, it may also be engaged in actions such as encouraging destructive activities and destabilization processes. This is not an exception, and it would not be surprising if such matters were exposed. Of course, funds need appropriate financing, but information about the real sources of that funding should be quite open and accessible to the public.
If the relevant authorities have no concerns about these issues, a proper statement will certainly be made, but it seems there was a basis for action. A fund must operate according to certain regulations. I don’t know the details, and perhaps the relevant agencies should provide you with more information," Volski stated.
For reference, according to the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, based on a court ruling, the bank accounts and financial assets of Nanuka’s Fund, Phrosferit, Fund for Each Other 24/7, Shame Movement, and Tbilisi Human Rights House have been frozen in all banking institutions in Georgia.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, these funds allegedly directed the majority of their financial resources toward encouraging individuals involved in illegal and criminal activities, as well as purchasing equipment and materials necessary for committing such acts. Additionally, the Prosecutor’s Office claims that these funds primarily used the collected finances to provide financial support for individuals accused of organizing and participating in group violence, as well as their family members.
