With 86 votes in favor, unanimously, the Parliament has adopted the "Foreign Agents Registration Act" in the second reading. The bill, initiated by the "Georgian Dream" faction, regulates the registration of a subject as an agent of a foreign principal. The enforcement of the law will be entrusted to the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
The bill defines the concepts of "agent of a foreign principal" and "foreign force." The following issues are regulated by the project:
The issue of ensuring the publicity of the application for registration as an agent of a foreign principal, along with other relevant documents;
The issue of submitting an annual financial declaration by a subject registered as an agent of a foreign principal;
The issue of canceling the registration of a subject registered as an agent of a foreign principal;
The issue of monitoring to identify agents of a foreign principal or to verify compliance with the requirements specified in the bill.
Avoiding registration as an agent of a foreign principal and failing to comply with the requirements defined by the law will result in criminal liability.
