The freezing of the funds’ accounts based on a criminal case is a complete farce - when you equate doing good with a crime, the unity of society becomes stronger and stronger, - former Prime Minister of Georgia Nika Gilauri writes about this on Facebook, responding to the freezing of several foundations, including his own.

According to him, doing good and helping the unjustly oppressed cannot be prohibited in Georgia.

“The freezing of the funds’ accounts on the basis of a criminal case is a complete farce.

Supporting the victims is not a crime – it is the duty of all those who believe in the country’s salvation and its European future.

These funds, with donations from businesses and citizens, help victims of political repression, unjustly fined and beaten people, cover the costs of their treatment and medicine, and support the families of those arrested.

When you equate doing good with a crime, when you consider extending a helping hand to those in need as hostility towards the country – the unity of society and standing by each other becomes stronger and stronger!

Doing good in Georgia, standing by those in need, helping those unjustly oppressed cannot be prohibited!”, Gilauri writes.

For information, the Prosecutor's Office seized the bank accounts and funds of several foundations. These foundations are: "Nanuka's Foundation", Nika Gilauri's "Prosperity" Foundation, "For Each Other 24/7 Foundation", "It's a Shame", and "Tbilisi Human Rights House". According to the agency, within the framework of the ongoing investigation into "the fact of sabotage, attempted sabotage under aggravating circumstances, assistance to a foreign organization and an organization under foreign control in hostile activities, and mobilization of funds for activities directed against the constitutional order and national security of Georgia," it was established that "in many cases, the collection and delivery of finances were carried out through the funds for the organization of criminal activities. According to them, the funds use the main part of the collected finances to financially help individuals accused of organizing and participating in group violence and their family members, and in addition, financing violent acts creates grounds for inciting individuals to engage in illegal activities for the purpose of receiving material benefit.
