Employees of the Shida Kartli Police Department arrested I.O., born in 2002 and previously convicted, for tampering with a computer system and unauthorized access to a computer system for financial gain. The information was released by the ministry’s press service.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the crime is punishable by 6 to 10 years of imprisonment.
"The investigation established that the accused unlawfully took control of various citizens' personal Facebook accounts. Using their names, he contacted different individuals and requested loans.
Through this fraudulent scheme, I.O. illegally obtained money from several citizens. As a result of investigative actions, law enforcement officers have so far identified 25 victims.
The investigation is ongoing under Articles 286^1 and 284 of the Georgian Criminal Code," the statement reads.
