Ucha Nanuashvili: "Georgian Dream" is trying to adopt the Russian law under the name of FARA – We will do everything to ensure that this law is not implemented for the third time

The government is trying to adopt the "Russian law" under the name of FARA – The main purpose of this law is to implement Russian interests on Georgian territory, and this is exactly what the goal of the "Georgian Dream" party and the actions of the illegitimate government are directed towards, said Ucha Nanuashvili, the head of the "Center for Democracy Studies" and former Public Defender, at a briefing held at the "Civil Society Fund" office.

He stated that the goal of the "Georgian Dream" party’s initiation of the FARA law is to implement Russian interests on Georgian territory.

"In 2023, the 'Georgian Dream' attempted to adopt the 'Russian law' for the first time, but they faced resistance from the Georgian people. In 2024, they tried again, but despite opposition, they managed to pass the law, though its implementation has still not happened. This is exactly what is stated in the explanatory note presented by FARA, that they could not implement the law because it practically meant the destruction of the vital interests of the Georgian people.

This year, for the third time, the government is trying to adopt the 'Russian law' in a different form. Why is this law Russian? Because its main purpose is to implement Russian interests on Georgian territory, and this is precisely the direction of the 'Georgian Dream's' goal and the actions of the illegitimate government.

Of course, civil society will always remain loyal to the Constitution of Georgia and Georgia's international obligations, the conventions Georgia joined years ago and still adheres to, including the European Convention and other international documents that this law contradicts. In other words, this law is unconstitutional, anti-Georgian, and we will do everything to ensure that this law is not enforced for the third time, and that civil society and the Georgian people emerge victorious in this struggle," said Ucha Nanuashvili.
